Hope is Freeing
Dr. Roger Smith's sermon proclaims Christmas as a declaration of freedom found in the hope offered by Jesus Christ. This hope, he argues, brings clarity, empowering believers to live with purpose and act boldly despite opposition. Using the Apostles, Peter and John, as examples, Dr. Smith emphasizes that genuine hope frees us from fear and worldly logic, enabling us to face challenges head-on, just as the apostles did when they were arrested and yet continued preaching. He distinguishes between godly boldness, rooted in love and self-control, and arrogance, emphasizing that true Christian boldness seeks to glorify God and advance His Kingdom. Dr. Smith encourages his congregation to embrace the life-changing hope of the gospel, which transforms priorities, brings joy even in adversity, and ultimately allows us to live freely as children of God.

Preston Sanders
In this sermon, Preston Sanders draws a parallel between the story of Mephibosheth from 2 Samuel 9 and the Gospel message. He highlights God's invitation of salvation, symbolized by the King's table, offered to all through Jesus Christ. Preston Sanders emphasizes that while God's love is unconditional, accepting this salvation is conditional. The first condition is accepting the invitation itself, believing in Jesus' sacrifice. The second condition is accepting it on God's terms, not through self-righteousness or good works, but by acknowledging our sinfulness and accepting the "wedding garment" of Christ's righteousness. He concludes by urging the congregation to embrace this gift of grace and share this invitation with others, emphasizing the urgency of accepting God's offer of salvation.
